New York, NY — February 25, 2020 – After five days of deliberation, disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of rape and sexual assault. In an exclusive airing on Tuesday, INSIDE EDITION’s Megan Alexander sits down with the woman only identified as Juror #2 in Weinstein’s trial, who is speaking for the first time about what it was like in the jury room, and why the jury came to the conclusion it did.
“I didn’t know who he was until someone actually broke it down for me,” the juror tells INSIDE EDITION of Harvey Weinstein.
On Friday, the jury told the judge they had reached a verdict on 3 of the 5 counts, but needed more time on the others.
“We wanted to get more clarification on how to move forward,” she says. “Some people wanted to go home and think about it. Some people wanted to think long and hard about the decisions we had to make.”
Over the weekend, she says she also thought about the testimony. “I thought about it, I was confident in my decision,” the juror tells INSIDE EDITION.
On Monday, the jury came to their verdict. “We had one person take control, he was the person that put everyone on the right path,” she says.
She says the final moments spent deliberating were tense. “My hands were sweating. I felt like my heart was gonna pop out of my chest,” she says. “I wouldn’t say it was nerve-wracking, but it was just like ‘This is it. This is the moment.’”
The juror says she was also impressed by Weinstein’s defense team, led by Donna Rotunno. “He had a strong team, very strong. They made valid points.”
The jury found Weinstein guilty of raping actress Jessica Mann and sexually assaulting former production assistant, Miriam Haley. But despite the testimony of “Sopranos” actress Annabella Sciorra, the jury found Weinstein not guilty of the most serious charge, predatory sexual assault.
“I wouldn’t say [her testimony] wasn’t convincing, it was convincing to a lot of the jury,” she tells INSIDE EDITION. “I feel like the way things went for her, it was wrong. I feel like hopefully with the verdict we gave, she has some type of closure.”
Ultimately, she says she has a lot of respect for Weinstein’s accusers who took the stand.
“Every last woman that took the stand, I wish them the best” she says. “I hope this is now a chapter that they can close and move forward with their lives now.”
