2016 NFL ON CBS Regular-Season Ratings Highlights

 

Sunday Afternoon & Thanksgiving Games

 

2016’s regular-season games on CBS averaged a 10.1 household rating/21 share and averaged 17.7 million viewers.

 

CBS’s 4:25 PM, ET National Games averaged a 12.4 HH rating in the 2016 regular season and had an +8% rating advantage over the NFL primetime broadcast package on NBC (12.4 vs 11.5).

 

2016 marked the 16th consecutive season (staring in 2001) that the CBS National game on Sunday afternoon has out-rated the NFL primetime broadcast package.

 


Thursday Night Football

 

The five Thursday night games on CBS and the NFL Network in the 2016 regular-season averaged an 8.9/16 HH rating/share and averaged 14.7 million viewers.

 

NFL coverage on CBS and the NFL Network dominated Thursday night in primetime (8:00-11:00 PM, ET) on the five nights of games on both networks. (CBS+NFLN prime average includes pre-game programming 8:00-8:26 PM, ET).

 

  • The CBS + NFL Network HH rating (8.3), was +137% higher than ABC (3.5), +144% higher than NBC (3.4) and +261% higher than FOX (2.3).

 

  • The CBS + NFL Network audience (13.7 million viewers), was +163% higher than NBC (5.2 million), +169% higher than ABC (5.1 million), +281% higher than FOX (3.6 million).

 

  • The CBS + NFL Network Thursday night games ranked as the fourth highest-rated and fifth most-watched program of the 2016-17 television season (9/19/16-5/24/17).

 


THE NFL TODAY

 

Regular-Season (Sunday + Thanksgiving)

 

For the 17 weeks of the regular-season, all telecasts of THE NFL TODAY in 2016 averaged a 2.5/7 and averaged 4.0 million viewers.

 

THE NFL TODAY’s 4.0 million viewers for the 2016 regular season tied with 2015 and was the highest regular-season viewer average for the CBS pre-game show since the NFL returned to the network in 1998.
