The 4:25 pm National game window on CBS has established itself as the time of day that viewers prefer to watch their high profile NFL games. For the past 19 seasons (starting with 2001) the National game window on CBS has out-rated the primetime games on NBC and ABC.
Through the 17 weeks of the 2019 Season (9/5-12/29/19) CBS NFL Regular games on Sunday and Thanksgiving (27 t/c) were seen in all-or-part by an estimated 142.1 million viewers:
higher than FOX’s Sunday and Thanksgiving games- 141.7 million viewers -27 t/c
+9% higher than NBC’s Primetime game- 130.5 million viewers - 19 t/c
+58% higher than ESPN-Monday Night games- 89.9 million – 17 t/c
*watched at least six minutes of coverage
AFC Champ Game
2020’s game between Tennessee @ Kansas City @ 3pm averaged 41.1 million viewers and was one of the most-watched programs to-date for the 2019-20 television year. The AFC Championship Game ranked only behind NFC Championship Game on FOX and Super Bowl programming on FOX (6:00 PM, ET Kick-off, Game and postgame)
CBS AFC Sunday Divisional Playoff Game
THE NFL ON CBS’ 3:00 PM, ET AFC Divisional play-off game, with Kansas City coming back from a 24 points down and beating Houston 51-31, averaged 35.4 million viewers- +21% vs. the year ago game on CBS (29.3m for LA Chargers @ New England @ at 1:00 PM, ET)
CBS AFC Saturday Primetime Divisional Playoff Game
THE NFL ON CBS’ primetime AFC Divisional Playoff game, with Tennessee pulling off their second playoff upset (this time over Baltimore), averaged 29.4 million viewers and was up +1% vs. the 2019 Saturday AFC Wild Card Game on NBC (29.238 million for Indianapolis- Kansas City at 4:35 PM, ET).
The Titans-Ravens game was the most-watched Saturday AFC Divisional playoff game in three years (29.816 million for Houston-New England in primetime on CBS in 2017).
CBS Primetime Wild Card Playoff Game
THE NFL ON CBS’ primetime Wild Card game with Tennessee upsetting New England 20-13 averaged 31.4 million viewers, up +6% from 2019’s 29.5 million for the primetime Wild Card game on FOX between Dallas and Seattle. This year’s Titans-Patriots game was the most- watched Saturday Wild Card playoff game (AFC or NFC) at 4:30 PM, ET or in primetime in six years (36.6 million for New Orleans-Philadelphia on NBC in 2014).
