NEW YORK – August 29, 2018 – INSIDE THE NFL, the longest running series on cable television, begins its 11th consecutive season on SHOWTIME when it premieres on Tuesday, September 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Super Bowl XXI MVP and two-time Super Bowl Champion Phil Simms, 1988 NFL MVP and four-time Pro-Bowler Boomer Esiason and Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis join Emmy® Award-winning host James Brown. In addition, 16-year NFL veteran Steve Smith Sr. will join the cast as a contributing analyst periodically throughout the season, debuting on the season premiere.
The Emmy Award-winning series, now in its 41st season on television, covers every game, every week, with trademark highlights from NFL Films, special in-depth features and spirited debate on the game’s hottest topics. New episodes of INSIDE THE NFL, produced by SHOWTIME Sports, CBS Sports and NFL Films, premiere on SHOWTIME every Tuesday throughout the NFL season through Tuesday, February 5, 2019, just days following the CBS Sports presentation of Super Bowl LIII.
“INSIDE THE NFL continues to evolve and even after 40-plus years on the air, it remains one of the most groundbreaking shows on television,” said Stephen Espinoza, President Sports & Event Programming, Showtime Networks Inc. “Our unique blend of talent, NFL Films highlights and incisive analysis give the series an edge that viewers cannot get from any other NFL news program.”
Smith is one of the most productive wide receivers of the 21st century. In 13 seasons with the Carolina Panthers, Smith broke every major receiving record for the franchise. A five-time Pro-Bowler, Smith led the entire NFL in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns in 2005. After finishing his run with the NFL in 2017, he started his media career as on-air talent for NFL Network. Smith is currently an analyst on GOOD MORNING FOOTBALL WEEKEND.
INSIDE THE NFL has won four Emmy Awards since its premiere on SHOWTIME in 2008, including twice for Best Studio Show—Weekly. The executive producers of INSIDE THE NFL are Sean McManus, Chairman, CBS Sports, Espinoza of SHOWTIME Sports and Ross Ketover and Pat Kelleher of NFL Films. Pete Radovich Jr., the Emmy Award-winning Senior Creative Director for CBS Sports, serves as coordinating producer.
